Where you can be who you are, and become who you were meant to be
HHMS is an independent, non-denominational, CCMA accredited Montessori school for ages 3 to grade 8 in Caledon, just south of Orangeville. We are situated on several acres of naturalized forest, meadow and nature trails. Since 2010 we have been providing a caring, nurturing, safe and stimulating environment where every child feels seen and celebrated, and where children grow to become self-confident, independent, and joyful learners.
Headwater Hills Montessori School aims to provide an environment where you can be who you are and become who you were meant to be. Our commitment is to create a kind, calm, joyful, and engaging environment that supports children to be their very best selves. We deeply value and nurture a strong connection with self, community, and nature, recognizing these as the foundation for self-love, care for others, the earth and all of its inhabitants. We aim to provide an open, welcoming, inclusive and safe environment for all. We actively celebrate diversity in all its forms within our school community, recognizing that this enriches all of us and lays a foundation for the child’s sense of compassion, justice, dignity and worth. We hold the vision for our students to develop into fully actualized and engaged citizens of the world, to bring forth their unique spark from within to light up our world.
We are a CCMA accredited Montessori school for ages 3 to grade 8 - We are accredited by the Canadian Council of Montessori Administrators (CCMA), the best assurance of an authentic Montessori education. Learn more about the CCMA.
A caring, nurturing, supportive and safe environment- Children are only able to learn if they feel safe and a sense of belonging. We actively cultivate an atmosphere of acceptance and collaboration. The result is a positive, supportive and kind learning community.
Experienced teachers- Our teachers have many years of experience, are highly qualified, and Montessori MACTE certified. They know how to stimulate and engage young minds and bring out the best in each child.
We have a diverse, welcoming, inclusive community that feels like family - We actively celebrate the broad diversity of our families. Parents are invited to share their culture, family heritage and traditions, hobbies and interests with our students as an enrichment to our program. There are many opportunities for family involvement in the school community.
Individual attention and personalized learning - No two children learn the same way. Personalized learning, tailored to the student’s interests, skills, and learning styles, has been shown to increase student engagement, and achievement. Our approach helps each child reach their full potential in all areas of study. Every child is celebrated for their unique strengths and optimally challenged in both areas of strength and weakness. Students who have the ability may advance well beyond their grade level, while students who struggle in a certain area are given the one on one assistance needed to succeed.
We instill confidence and independence in every child - There are opportunities for all children to take initiative, to be a leader, and to mentor others. Our students become confident in self expression and public speaking on stage through our drama program, Literary Tea, Celebration of Light and Spring Soiree events.
Forest School Program, Nature and Outdoor learning - We are passionate about connecting children to the natural world. Whether it be through our weekly Forest Friday half-day nature immersion program, tending to our school garden, nature walks on our trails, planting trees, outdoor education field trips, farm visits, or middle school camping trips, our students develop a deep love and appreciation for the natural world.
Social-Emotional Learning - From the age of three, we use daily opportunities as they arise to teach grace and courtesy, conflict resolutions skills, and to model kindness and compassion. We teach relationship and communication skills, leadership skills, mindfulness, and emotional self-awareness as part of the curriculum in the Elementary and Middle School classes.
French for all ages - From the age of three all of our students learn to speak and understand French. We use songs, games, stories and drama to make learning French fun and accessible.
Physical Education- Our Elementary and Middle School phys. ed. program is very diverse and taught by specialists in the community. Students participate in tennis, squash, pickleball, cross country and downhill skiing, volleyball, basketball, track and field, soccer, dance, yoga, gymnastics, rowing and more, taught by specialists in the community.
